We advise against beginning the survey with demographic questions. Exceptions are specific surveys where you cannot afford not to collect such data or where you need such data to create conditions. Demography (gender, age, education, etc.) is therefore usually placed at the end of the survey. It's even worse to start the survey with sensitive or difficult questions. The first question should be (a) simple, (b) friendly and (c) interesting to attract the respondent.
